Specially designed mattress that works on a lifestyle bed base. Made specifically to contour and adapt to different positions as determined by the bed base.
Aer-Fōm refers to the inner upholstery padding (below the quilt), which is constructed above the Marshall Mattress pocket coil spring-core. It is a body-conforming and pressure-relieving material that resembles memory foams but, without any heat sensitivity or heat retention whatsoever. The Rest Assured® Heritage, Sleepmaker Luxe III and Premier First features this padding material and is regarded as a Plush (softer feeling) tight-top, two-sided mattress design.
A design feature that ensures reduction of heat build-up within the mattress for a more pleasant, temperature-ambient sleep environment.
A metal or wood frame used to support the mattress and foundation. Please see warranty guidelines when selecting the proper bedframe for your Marshall mattress.

CertiPUR-US® is a not-for-profit certification program for foam used in bedding products and upholstered furniture. When you see the CertiPUR-US® seal, you can be confident that the flexible polyurethane foam inside meets CertiPUR-US® standards for content, emissions, and durability, and has been analyzed by independent, accredited testing laboratories.
CertiPUR-US® approved foams are:
CleanSleep® refers specifically to the Marshall Mattress approach to mattress making. This applies to both the overall manufacturing hygiene, as well as having its mattress ticking (cover fabric), which is finished with a bio-friendly process that safely inhibits dust mites from breeding in the sleeping environment. It is hypoallergenic, antibacterial, antimicrobial and antifungal. This process is Oeko-Tex 100 certified.
The number of coils in the mattress core. The coil count will always vary by size and model
A Comfort Top is a double cushion European styled no flip mattress design where the surface padding and the interior padding each contribute to the overall sensations of comfort and underlying support felt by the sleeper.
Crowning is a visual rise from the mattress centre, typical of non-foam encased 2-sided flip mattresses. Natural Crowning is referred to as a strong assembly feature, normal, and indicative of traditional upholstery techniques and the sturdy buildup of the mattress centre to resist wear-and-tear. The crowning effect may temporarily seem a little exaggerated with a slight sensation of rolling towards the mattress edge. This is normal and will flatten-out quickly in use.
Damask Fabric refers to a reversible designed fabric of silk, wool, linen, cotton or synthetic fibres with a pattern formed by weaving. Damasks are typically woven with one warp yarn and one weft yarn. Marshall Mattress uses natural source Belgian Viscose or Cotton and Viscose blend Damask covers in its products.
Standard dimensions are 53.5 inches wide x 74 inches long
The parallel outer rows of pocket coils that form the firmer seating edge. The rows are made from high tensile 14.5 gauge steel pocket springs supported by a flexible border wire.
Flip Mattress (Two-Sided Mattress)
A Flip, or Two-Sided Mattress refers to a mattress where both top and bottom surfaces are usable for sleep. It is implicit that for the price paid, you have two usable sleep surfaces. A benefit of this traditional design is that once the mattress is both flipped and reversed to a standard schedule, the sleep surfaces are able to recover and ensure good useful life.
The weight of one cubic meter (foot) of foam.
Foam encasement refers to a method of mattress production where a 3” to 4” hard foam border is glued to the innerspring unit of a mattress. The foam is typically made of polyurethane and is intended to increase the sleep surface. There are many advocates and detractors of the foam encasement process. Marshall Mattress does not manufacture any of its pocket coil mattresses with foam encasement. That means that all pocket coil mattresses are from edge-to-edge and head-to-toe with no foam surrounding edges.
A mattress constructed without edge wires to be completely foldable; can be bi-folded, tri-folded or folded into an ‘S’ curve. Ideal for homes with limited access; such as but not limited to, awkward doorways, multi-level stairwells, narrow hallways or zig-zag corners.
The base used to support the mattress. All Marshall Mattress foundations are assembled from sustainable Canadian wood and are fully upholstered throughout. Foundations come in standard heights based on the model and low profile heights for customization.
Low Profile Foundation
Low profile foundations are shorter in height, therefore decreasing the overall height of the mattress set. Low profile foundations are available in 4” and 2” heights. All Marshall Mattress foundations are assembled from sustainable Canadian wood and are fully upholstered throughout.
Hollofil™ is a synthetic pillow fibre that is breathable and pressure-relieving. It is designed to be air-permeable and circulate temperature evenly.
James Marshall was a British-born machinist, engineer and inventor credited with inventing the individual pocket coil spring system. He settled near St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada when he patented his invention in 1900. He was granted patents in the United States and Europe in 1901.
Standard dimensions are 76 inches wide x 80 inches long
New Zealand Wool
New Zealand wool is a sustainable natural fibre with outstanding beauty, performance, maintenance and well-being benefits. It is non-allergenic and its natural properties provide inherent fire resistance, air purification and moisture control, creating an exceptionally safe and healthy indoor environment. Marshall Mattresses primarily uses New Zealand Wool for comfort as a top layer of quilting.
No Flip Mattress (Singled-Sided Mattress)
A No Flip, or Single-Sided Mattress refers to a mattress where there is only one usable sleep surface. The best No Flip designs ensure even wear but will not have the same degree of surface recovery as a flip mattress. To ensure even wear, it’s recommended to reverse the mattress end to end periodically as directed by your warranty.
Off-Gassing refers the levels of volatile organic compounds that are emitted from a mattress or other household items. In the case of mattresses, Off-Gassing is most commonly addressed when referring to the types of foams found in each product. All foams used in the production of Marshall Mattress products are CertiPUR-US® certified. No PBDEs are ever used in any Marshall Mattress products. For more information please visit the CertiPUR®-US website or consult the CertiPUR-US® section of the glossary.
Poly Brominated Diphenyl Ethers are flame retardant chemicals produced in countries other than Canada, and appear in certain consumer products such as polyurethane foam or plastics. Such commercial use has been questioned in terms of safety, since its residue is detectable in the environment. No PBDEs are ever used in any Marshall Mattress products.
Phthalates are a group of chemicals used to make plastics more flexible and harder to break. They are often called plasticizers. Some phthalates are used as solvents (dissolving agents) for other materials. No Phthalates are ever used in any Marshall Mattress products.
A Pillow Top is a double cushion finish to the sleep surface, which involves a primary upholstery padding below the quilted cover and enhancement layers quilted to the mattress cover fabric. Marshall Mattress distinctly separates the two elements so that the user experiences graduated comfort as they rest.
A pocket coil refers to a mattress spring and cushioning system invented in Canada by James Marshall, and patented in 1900. Used in mattresses, it is considered the most well-known and most popular type of mattress construction.
Standard dimensions are 60 inches wide x 80 inches long
Reverse Convolute Foam
Convolute Foam is foam that is specifically sliced in an egg-crate pattern. This allows for elements of pressure reduction in the surface of the mattress quilt below the cover. Reverse means that the dimples face inward allowing the maximum amount of pressure relief experienced by the sleeper. All foams used in the production of Marshall Mattress products are CertiPUR-US® certified.
Soy Foam is a manmade material partially made from soy that is considered breathable, more user-friendly and is more biodegradable at the end of its use. It is featured primarily as a component for inner upholstery and quilting. All foams used in the production of Marshall Mattress products are CertiPUR-US® certified.
The visual ‘smile’ or dip in a mattress caused by the breaking down of the spring core unit.
Wooden planks used to support and hold up the foundation or mattress.
A Tight Top is a traditional mattress finish where the top mattress panel is seamed directly to the sidewall of the mattress border. A Tight Top mattress can be constructed to offer different degrees of support and comfort from the inside out.
Depressions made at regular intervals in a mattress by passing a needle and thread through it. This technique is done by hand and tied off using woolen tufts. For reference see Bespoke Collection.
Standard dimensions are 38.5 inches wide x 74 inches long.
